Pro Bono
Melanie Mills defeated House Bill 490, which preserved the ability for 17,500 cosmetologists to retain their status at the lease-holds as booth renters, at the Ohio State House. Arguing that Pat Tiberi's proposed H.B. 490 was in violation of the Ohio Constitution, the bill was not passed. Ms. Mills organized the effort amongst the cosmetologists in the state, in order to defeat the bill, which would have turned them into employees as opposed to independent contractors, as a result all of the cosmetologists in the state of Ohio benefited and were able to maintain their status as independent contractors.
